House Progress- 3rd Update!

Hi there, friends!  I am thrilled to share our most recent house update and reveal the blog's NEW look.  What do you think?!

It is hard to believe that we purchased our home over 7 months ago.. I was going through the before pictures this week and I am so proud of how much we have done.  There were many days that I didn't know how on Earth we would make this house a home since we both work full-time, Dustin is in school part-time AND with a little one.  By the grace of God we have made it through the roughest parts of the renovation and the rest should be easy peasey. (Hopefully I am not jinxing us...)

In the original floor plan, the kitchen and living room were separated by a half-wall.  We removed that wall and installed a beam in the attic for support in order to achieve an open-concept floor plan.  Doing that made such an amazing difference!   You can view the BEFORE house tour here.

Warning-- picture overload!

The kitchen has come a long way and the new layout is wonderful!!  This layout is much more efficient for cooking and entertaining.  It always takes a while for a new house to feel like home and I can finally say it feels like home! Yay!

Remaining on the Punch List:

Build Cabinet Doors/Paint

Cabinet Hardware

Tile Back splash

Install Open Shelving Over Sink

Island Pendant Lighting

Island Counter Stools

Switch Out Our Refrigerator-- the one pictured is our spare fridge

Buy Rug for Sink Area

I should have another update pretty soon!  I am hoping to get some pictures done over the holidays...I will be signing off until after Christmas to spend time with my family.  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!  I am truly grateful for this little creative outlet of mine and even more thankful for you guys following along on this journey with us!

Merry Christmas!

Holiday Gift Guide: Toddler Girl

I cannot believe that December is only 2 days away! I have one gift purchased so far.  I need to get with the program and start my shopping!  Lord knows Evangelene has enough toys since she just had a birthday but it is so fun to shop for little girls!  I try to find items that she would not necessarily see when we are on our weekly Target run.  Two of these items she got for her birthday and she absolutely LOVES them, so I included them too!  Most of these are still on sale from Black Friday until Monday!  Happy shopping!!

(I ordered these socks for $2 on ebay...I am actually ordering the coffee color now!)

(For every doll purchased a doll is gifted to an orphan!)

Living Room Plans

Whenever we sold our last home in January, we packed up almost all of our belongings and put them into storage.  We knew that the house we would eventually purchase would need to be renovated extensively, so we kept our furniture/decorations stored away until most of the rooms were renovated.  Now that 5 of the 8 spaces are almost done, we are trying to empty out the storage units. As we unpack I am realizing that I:  A. We have too many belongings,  B. I do not love my furniture, C. I should have tried to sell these said furniture pieces instead of paying to store them.....You live and you learn, friends!

The couch is pretty modern and simple so I can definitely work with it.  Our area rug is less than a year old and I need to keep them for the time being.

Here is what I am planning for the living room--adding a pop of pink to brighten up the space with some mixed metal details.  These throw pillows make me so happy

Pieces I plan on keeping:

Sofa
Coffee Table
Blue Velvet Chair

Shopping List for Living Room:

Throw Pillows

Gold Geometric Accent Table

Gold Round Table

Floor Lamp

Wall Art

Off White Upholstered Arm Chair

Curtains/ Rod

Table Lamps

Learning to love my furniture past the 3 year mark is definitely something I need to work on.  Please tell me I am not the only one?!?

I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving week with your family!

DIY Gold Bracket Shelves

While designing Evie's bathroom, I began looking for shelves with gold hardware.  The most inexpensive ones I could find were $130 per shelf....I needed 2 shelves and that did NOT fit into my budget.  We decided to make our own and spent under $35 for 2 shelves!

Here is what we used:

6 x 6 bracket  (pack of 2)   $8.97

1 x 6 board    $8.00

spray paint  $4.80 with my 40% off coupon at Michael's

Benjamin Moore' s white dove interior paint in semi-gloss
*did not have to purchase any because we had a gallon from painting the bathroom*

So very proud to say that we saved over $200 by making the shelves on our own.  Woohoo!!  I think they look fantastic.  Check them out...

Hope the rest of your week is wonderful!

{Evie's Bathroom}: THE REVEAL!

Today is an exciting day because I can finally say we are done with Evie's bathroom!  If you are just joining me, you can see the bathroom progress HERE.

We had to completely gut this bathroom and start from scratch.  Nothing was worth saving.  It was a very small space but a huge project!  Everything from plumbing to electrical to drywall had to be done.  Luckily, we saved so much money by doing the work on our own.  I can't wait to total up the receipts and see if we stayed under budget.  Regardless if we went a little over, it is definitely thousands of dollars cheaper than our lowest contractor bid-- and that feels amazing!!

I have major design commitment issues so it takes me a while to make up my mind on most days.  I always fear that I will get tired of something after about a year of seeing it every day.  However, the moment I laid eyes on this wallpaper, I knew it was perfect for this bathroom!

Let's refresh your memory with a before picture of the bathroom.  Gorgeous, right?

After...

We are so proud of the finished result!  It's been a long summer renovating this home but a fun journey, for sure.  We have 4 more rooms left to renovate and the entire exterior... Say some prayers for us!  Shout out to my sweet husband for making all of my crazy design ideas come to life!

Decorating Pumpkins.

Hi all! I hope you have been enjoying the beginning of fall as much as we have! We have been busy baking pumpkin cookies, watching Hocus Pocus, visiting pumpkin patches and decorating pumpkins!  We haven't been working on the house as much as we should be, but we are enjoying every single bit of my favorite season...(outdoors)

My siblings and I had a family pumpkin decorating day last weekend.  It was our first cool front of the fall and the weather was absolutely perfect!  Evie found a couple of kits at Target that didn't require any carving (thank God!)  They were so cute and easy enough for her to do them on her own.

My sweet sister and brother!

So proud of her black cat and witch!

My little family.

House Update--
We are still living in a construction zone- Our kitchen, laundry, master bed and bath are still under construction.  Evie's bathroom took forever to complete because the counter top company installed her marble with huge scratches all over.  The guys came back and ripped it out leaving the sheet rock damaged.  Dustin had to completely repair the sheet rock and re-paint the walls so they could install another piece of marble. Fun times!  I promise I will get around to posting Evie's bathroom pictures soon!

Happy October, friends!

DIY Dollhouse Inspiration

I really want to build a dollhouse for Evie and give it to her for Christmas this year.  She loves playing house with her babies and I know she will just DIE whenever she sees it.  Who am I kidding-- I will probably love playing with her dollhouse just as much or even more than she does!  There is nothing cuter than mini furniture!!

I love the idea of her Daddy building it for her and whenever she outgrows it, we can have it as a family keepsake for our grandchildren to enjoy one day.  I get teary-eyed just typing that.  Gosh!....I started researching different types of dollhouse construction just to get ideas.  Dustin will definitely come up with his own intricate design because he is so creative.  I honestly kind of like the really simple ones but we will see what my boo will come up with!

These dollhouses are the cutest..

Dressing Up Your Home for Fall

Hello friends! It is finally the time to make the glorious transition from summer to fall.  Can I get an Amen???  The perfect excuse to update your home with new accessories and hues inspired by the season.  I love the charm and warmth of an eclectic home.  Mixing the old with the new.  My favorite way to accomplish this style is to add a fun mix of metal accessories of gold, copper and silver, textured throw pillows/blankets, and a couple of modern organic pieces.  This roundup will help you get that perfectly curated look---

I can't wait to get my paws on the boxes of fall decor in our storage unit.  I know my little Evie girl will love helping me decorate this year! Happy September, everyone!
